Moldova 2022 – Zdob și Zdub & Frații Advahov – Trenulețul

The new old representative of Moldova is again in the race for another place in the Eurovision Song Contest. Zdob si Zdub returns to the Eurovision stage for the third time, this time accompanied by Frații Advahova. A very unusual choice after last year’s pop song and a very successful result for Moldova.

While I have great respect for the traditional music of any country, I really feel that this song is not competitive nor will it fit well into the concept of the competition. Of course, the song Trenuletul has its advantages. I like satire, it has very positive energy, it invites fun and dancing. I believe that many Balkan and former Soviet states will sympathize with this type of music, but I don’t think they will be generous with their votes, neither from the audience nor from the jury.

Year after year, the Eurovision Song Contest is becoming a more competitive competition in which it is important to win and not just participate. That’s why I think that songs like this can hardly achieve a better result. I understand the intention of Moldova to try to attract the attention of the audience with one funny song, but in this brutal competition, it is difficult to achieve.

Personally, I think that the song Trenuletul will not qualify for the finals, in fact, I am afraid that it will be in the competition of the worst placed songs in 2022. Unexpected placement can always happen, depending on the mood of the audience, but such surprises are becoming rarer from year to year.

Trenuletul is a very funny and entertaining song and I find it more acceptable for some home parties and weddings than for the Eurovision Song Contest. I really think it is wrong for this competition and that more effort should have been put into choosing a representative song. My rating for the song Trenuletul is 3/10.
