Belgium has decided to try the internal selection this year as well. Jeremie Makiese with the song Miss You was chosen as the representative of Belgium. Jeremie is a relatively new musical name. He presented himself to the public in the Belgian version of the show The Voice.
Ever since the blind audition, Jeremie was my favorite for the final victory, which he eventually became. He absolutely delighted with his beautiful voice and beautiful interpretations. I was very happy to hear that he is the representative of Belgium and I secretly hoped that he could be one of the favorites to win.
But when the song was released, I was disappointed. The song starts out very well, a bit like the music from the James Bond movie and by the middle of the song, it sounds very promising. I wish the whole song was mystical. Jeremie sounds great but I don’t think that’s it. I was expecting a song of a more powerful caliber that would be consistent with Jeremie’s vocal abilities.
The song isn’t bad in general, but I’m missing something. It is difficult to predict the outcome of Belgium. I equally think that Belgium can and does not have to make it to the finals. I think this is more of a jury song, but if it’s good staging, I believe it can then make it to the finals. Personally, I don’t like this song and so I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t make it to the finals but on the other hand, I think Jeremie deserves it.
We have to wait for the final outcome in May and wish all the best to Belgium. My rating for the song Miss You is 6/10.
