In the previous two years, Czechia had a successful qualification to the finals of the Eurovision Song Contest. This year too, there were certain expectations, the hope that a country that has never won can compete for victory.
This country has already chosen a new Eurovision representative in 2023, Aiko with the song Pedestal. The song is very different from last year’s selection, it has a very alternative and urban sound. The song is very rebellious, it has a good rock sound, but at the same time, it is too short, so they must revamp and extend it to 3 minutes.
If they make a good revamp, the song has potential. I think there is an opportunity to create a good stage performance and to raise the energy in the audience. The song itself is quite average and I don’t think it can achieve any success. If Czechia finds itself in the “weaker” semi-final group, it may have a slim chance of making it to the final.
A lot of things need to be improved, from the song itself, the vocal performance, and a good stage performance to be able to have some expectations. For now, I believe that this song will not make it to the finals and will end Czechia’s qualifying streak. My rating for Pedestal is 6/10.
