Last year Lithuania was one of the favorites to win, but in the end, The Roop won 8th place which is a bit unfair that it is the second-best result of Lithuania in their Eurovision history. This year Lithuania is represented by singer Monika Liu with the song Sentimentai.
After many years, Lithuania will present itself in its national language, which is certainly positive because it contributes to the diversity of the competition. I experienced the song Sentimentai as a blend of cabaret, jazz, and drama. A real art song that probably not many will understand, but it deserves great respect.
I’m not a big fan of this type of music, so I don’t like the song itself. I find it acceptable and good for the competition but I personally would not vote for this song. I believe it will certainly attract the attention of an international jury, as I believe this is not a style of music for a wide audience.
I would say that qualifying for the finals is possible for most countries because so far there are no clear favorites to pass the groups. If the competition becomes stronger after a while, in that case, I would say that Lithuania will not make it to the finals. I think this is a jury song and in that case, a larger number of audience votes would certainly be necessary.
I expect a very glamorous and very nice performance of Monica. Maybe in the end it pleasantly surprised me. I definitely wish all the best to Lithuania. My rating for Sentimentai is 5.5 / 10.
