The Netherlands has done a great job hosting Eurovision and is now back on the hunt for another big success. After a long series of years, the Netherlands will present itself in its national language by S10 with the song De Diepte.
When I first listened to the song, I decided not to study the lyrics but just indulge in the emotion of the song. Although I didn’t understand anything, I was delighted with the song. It doesn’t matter what language is sung in if the emotion is sincere and reaches people.
The song has real depth, the lyrics are beautiful. I was especially impressed by this young singer who has a storyteller’s voice and sounds especially perfect in low tones. If the song was in English, it might not have any specificity, but listening to it in Dutch takes on a new dimension.
I fully support that as many countries as possible sing in their national languages, which proved to be a winning combination last year. I also like the simplicity of the song. I think the Netherlands is going for a new high score.
There is no doubt that the song De Diepte will make it to the finals, I just hope it doesn’t go wrong with the staging. This is both a jury and a televote song and that’s why I think it can achieve a top 15 if not an obviously higher score. Special and unique, that is my view of the De Diepte song. My rating for the song De Diepte is 8.5 / 10.
