Last year’s performance of the Netherlands at Eurovision was minimalistic and beautiful, and I would have liked it to have entered the top 10. This year too, they opted for a nice pop ballad and I think they have a chance to stand out again.
The Netherlands is represented by Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper with the song Burning Daylight. The song has a beautiful beginning and a light introduction to the whole story. I really like the parts where both singers sing independently, telling their side of the story. The chorus is great, and the lyrics are even better. But I have to admit that as the song goes towards the final part, I like it a little less. I like everything except that last part, I wish it ended in a similar way as it runs through the whole song.
This is a really high-quality song, carefully created, you can feel that western musical influence and I think it had great potential to become as successful as Arcade. Personally, I would change the ending of the song and I think in that case it would be a potential winner of the competition. Regardless of that, I think the Netherlands will make it to the finals.
Unfortunately, if the stage performance is not at a high level, it may happen that they will be surprising non-qualifiers. You never know with the audience, but I hope they won’t be shocked by not voting for this song. My rating for the song Burning Daylight is 7.5/10
