This year too, Slovenia chose its representative through internal selection. Last year it was very successful as Slovenia returned to the final again. Joker Out was phenomenal and they brought tons of positive energy.
Raiven was chosen to represent Slovenia this year with the song Veronika. Raiven tried several times to win the national competition but was not lucky. Most of us certainly had high expectations for the song Veronika and believed that it could be a competitive song.
I like that the song is in Slovenian because the essence of the song can be truly conveyed. It is very dark, and dramatic, bringing a certain tension, and a bit of a cinematic atmosphere. The production is on a high level, and the song is very well presented visually in the video. Still, the question is whether all this can be approximately transferred to the Eurovision stage.
This song cannot excite a wide audience and will depend a lot on the live performance. The music video imposed certain expectations, as to how the stage performance should look, and under the condition that the vocal performance is strong and flawless. I think that the visual part can be realized at the performance, but I miss even more drama, a moment in the song that can cause goosebumps.
It is clear that Slovenia wants to go as far as possible, primarily to qualify for the final and then maybe the top 10. I think that Slovenia will go to the final if it is not in a stronger semi-final group, but I also think that it can suffer the fate of Georgia and an unexpected elimination in the semi-final.
I think that Slovenia deserves a place in the final, but I don’t see any greater success than the top 15. My rating for the song Veronika is 7/10.
