Last year was highly successful for Spain. Chanel was unique and unrepeatable; for me, she should have been the real winner.
It will be difficult to repeat such a success, and significantly overshadow Chanel, which has set very high standards. Many probably expected that Spain would choose a similar representative this year, but we got a very different choice, Blanca Paloma with the song Eaea.
This song is a pure reflection of real Spanish traditional music. It brings the spirit of flamenco, as soon as you hear that song you can imagine that you are in Spain. The song is dark, mystical, dramatic, and intriguing.
It represents a higher level of art that is probably not understandable to everyone, which gives it a certain uniqueness.
Although I have already listened to the song several times, unfortunately, I don’t like it. Maybe in time, I will like it, but not yet, at some moments it is really unlistenable.
Regardless, I have a lot of respect for this song and I think it will get noticed in Liverpool but I don’t think it will compete for the win. I think the jury will appreciate this song more than the audience, but maybe it will turn out differently. I appreciate that Spain brings a song that is true to its culture, but I don’t know how much it will delight the masses.
I hope this song changes my mind. I don’t think Spain will repeat the success of Chanel this year, but I think it can make the top 15. My rating for the song Eaea is 6/10.
