In the last two years, Denmark has not been particularly successful at the Eurovision Song Contest, remaining in the semi-finals both times.
Despite this, they still hold the national contest as a basis for finding a suitable song to represent them in the upcoming competition. This year Denmark is represented by the young singer Reiley with the song Breaking My Heart.
A really young, sweet teenage song. The singer’s voice, as well as the style of the song, strongly resembles the songs of Charlie Puth. The song is OK, but I’m not thrilled, it’s neither the best nor the worst. A simple, light song, but not enough for a significant result at Eurovision.
Given that Denmark is in the “weaker” semi-final, I think it has equal chances to qualify for the final and not to qualify for the final. It’s hard for me to estimate how enthusiastic the audience could be with this song because the song itself will not be enough, something has to happen on stage to attract attention.
I think that already at this moment the competition is too strong and therefore it will be difficult to expect any kind of success from Denmark. I believe that it can make it to the finals, but I think that it could stay in the semi-finals for the third time.
Regardless of everything, young Reiley should not be underestimated or discouraged because every representative deserves a chance to show his best and try to reach the desired final. For me, this song is not competitive enough, so my rating for Breaking My Heart is 5.5/10.
