Malta 2022 – Emma Muscat – Out Of Sight

The representative of Malta for this year is Emma Muscat with the song Out of sight. Malta is one of those countries towards which I always have empathy in the Eurovision Song Contest because they have been trying to win for many years. I want to forget the overall negative story from last year because I believe that Malta can gain Europe’s attention without unnecessary drama and excess.

I would say Malta is back to its usual recipe for Eurovision, female vocals with a classic pop ballad. I like the piano instrumental at the beginning of the song and the lyrics are really nice. The whole song is good but nothing special, there were too many songs like this. Although it starts in a nice way, the rest of the song is monotonous, it lacks some effect, it lacks a bit of dramaturgy, it lacks “the moment”.

Overall, it’s not a bad choice but as I said, there have really been too many songs like this in previous years. Malta has been doing very well in recent years by the jury, so I think the door to the finals is open for her. As time goes on, it is becoming increasingly clear that the second semi-final group is stronger and heavier, so I think it could be much harder for Malta to make it to the finals. Even with excellent staging, the chances are not great. But like I said, the jury really loves Malta.

There are chances for reaching the finals, but if it was the competition from last year, there would be no chance. Regardless, I give great support to Emma to present herself to Europe in the best possible way and try to achieve the best possible result. My rating for the song Out of Sight is 5.5 / 10.
