E buonasera, signore e signori, Italy won the Eurovision Song Contest !!!
Eurosong 2021, one of the strongest seasons ever, brutal competition and, in my opinion, the best winner of the competition in the last decade. Italy deservedly won. Måneskin ignited the stage, brought incredible energy, one of the best performances ever. Before the rehearsals, few believed that Italy could win next to Malta, France, Switzerland, but they still proved that the live performance really changed the opinion of the audience. On March 8, I wrote an article about Zitti e buoni stating that Italy had once again chosen the winning material and that I hope it can surprise in the final. On May 22, Italy wins with 524 points and an overwhelming victory in the televoting. Måneskin deserves all the praise and I hope for a spectacle at the next Eurovision Song Contest. Also, I want to mention the fact that Damiano David did not take drugs during the final evening, which was shown by a valid negative test and which was also confirmed by the EBU. A legitimate and deserved victory without dirty things.
Great success was achieved by France and Switzerland. I have to admit that I expected the overwhelming victory of France by the jury, I was even more shocked to see that some countries did not give a single point to France. If the expert jury can’t recognize the quality and art of the Voilà song, then I don’t know who else should. But either way, I’m glad the final victory went to Italy.
Ukraine, Finland, and Iceland have achieved fantastic results. I am glad that linguistic diversity has dominated this year. Ukraine deservedly second in the televote, it was a sensation from the performance. Many generic pop songs have experienced a fiasco, including Malta. Malta achieved a good result overall, but also realistic. Overly favored, I think Destiny deserves a far better song to win, so 47 points by the audience are no surprise. I did not like the outbursts of the Maltese delegation about sabotaging Malta because they got position 6 in the final. Destiny seemed very nervous during the vote and as if she was going to get sick at any moment, maybe they were really convinced they would take the win even though in my opinion it was not realistic to expect.
Some countries had perhaps the best songs ever and experienced a terrible result. The reason for this is the relentless competition, as I said, the brutal season. San Marino and Albania deserved much better results but simply the year was such that almost all the songs could sit on the throne of Europe. The biggest shock of the finals is the 4 zeros. The United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands did not deserve it. I can’t say that it’s unfair because it was decided by the audience, but I still think that the songs of those countries deserved a lot more.
Like I said, this was an amazing Eurovision year, once again a big congratulations to Italy, a well-deserved victory. Måneskin can now conquer the world as well because they are certainly a band of world caliber, unique and special. I can’t wait for next year and the Eurovision Song Contest in Italy, I’m sure we will have an exciting new Eurovision year.
